Give your community members a way to demonstrate mastery over multiple competencies with stackable-badges!
Communities are getting creative with learning opportunities by using digital microcredentials and stackable badges. Digital microcredentials certify that a learner has mastered a specific skill or competency, and communities can award them to members who complete a course or program. These microcredentials can be combined to create a digital badge that certifies mastery of a set of competencies.
Creating Micro-credentials
To create a digital micro-credential, head to your Content Dashboard and click Create.
Click "Create" in the top-right corner and select "Badge". If it's your community's first badge, you will be asked to create your digital badge Issuer Profile.
In the Badge Creation Form, select "Micro-credential" from the "Type" menu to create your competency-level badge.
Next, complete the remaining form fields. Click here to read more about creating a badge.
Finally, identify the action that your learners will take to earn this micro-credential. For the 'Criteria', it's a good idea to include learning objectives for this experience.
For automatically-awarded badges, select from any of the following automated triggers:
- Joins Community
- Watches Video(s)
- Comments on Discussion(s)
- Earns other Badge
Once a badge trigger is selected, a list of items will display that you can select from, based on your community-level permissions. Once your criteria has been defined, then click [Create].
You have just created a micro-credential! Repeat the above process as many times as necessary to create a set of micro-credentials to use in your stackable badge package!
Creating a Stackable Badge
Follow the same steps as shown above to Create a new Badge. On the Badge creation form, select 'Credential' from the 'Type' menu.
For the 'Criteria' section of this Badge, select the menu option for 'Earn other Badge'.
Then, select each of your micro-credentials from the list of Badges available.
Once your criteria has been defined, then click [Create].
You've created a learning pathway that automatically awards micro-credentials as learners master individual competencies and an overarching credential when all competencies are mastered!
